Dear Editor,

The American Religious Civil War (ARCW) appears to have chosen the floor of the Kentucky Legislature for its most recent battlefield.

The un-American forces at work to destroy our freedoms must be defeated if the future Daughters of the ARCW are to celebrate victory for democracy over the theocracy that threatens our liberties on several fronts.

Already certain of our Kentucky legislators, who appear appallingly ignorant of history, of theology, and of constitutional principles, have passed laws giving special rights to religious sects that are unreasonable, unconscionable, and unconstitutional. More unjust laws await their treasonous approval, to be followed in due course by the inquisitions and heresy trials that will inevitably be required to insure their implementation.

Those who do not know history are dooming Kentucky to repeat its mistakes. Those who do not know theology are making a mockery of the Sermon on the Mount, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, and the very idea of a God of love. Those who do not know constitutional principles are acting as if Section 5 of the Kentucky Constitution does not say that no person's civil rights shall be diminished because of disbelief in any religious dogma. Whether through ignorance or disloyalty to their oaths, they tread with impiety on the graves of our martyrs.

How dare they declare religion exempt from laws others must obey? How dare they define religion to suit themselves? How dare they give special rights to religion and make religious rules the laws for We the People?

A lot of blood was shed to stop their kind from doing that in the past. Don't forget this. We have far too many important things to do than to go through it all again.
