FINAL CHALLENGES TO CAMPERS
FROM
EDWIN KAGIN, CAMP QUEST DIRECTOR.
CAMP QUEST 2005
Issued June 18, 2005
To: the Campers of Camp Quest 2005, Greetings .
As campers from past years know, and as new campers are now
to learn, it is traditional at Camp Quest for your beloved Camp Director to
provide, on the first night of camp, certain "Challenges" to you, our campers,
and invite you to provide answers to these Challenges on the last night of camp.
As you probably know, the S.S. Quest, the spaceship Camp
Quest campers assisted with their advice in 1997, the second year of Camp Quest,
arrived safely on the newly discovered planet Questerion on November 26, 2000.
Since that time, our campers have provided important
information to the Questerians on whether their civilization should develop
along lines of science, critical inquiry, and reason, or along lines of
religious belief, mysticism, and proof by faith, as urged by their powerful and
rapidly growing priesthood.
The people of this planet communicate with us through a
wormhole that is open for only a few hours each year. We have scheduled Camp
Quest so that this happens on the last night of Camp Quest. Remember that the
Questerions can only process information from us that is provided in creative,
active forms, such as drama, music, and dance. They do not like lectures or dull
statements that are just read to them. Please present your answers in a lively,
manner that will both entertain and inform.
This year staff may work with the campers in the preparation
and presentation of your answers. This may be our last ever contact, so be clear
and creative; show them your best and the best that Camp Quest has to offer.
Please limit your responses to ten (10) minutes per cabin.
HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS SENT TO US BY THE PLANET QUESTERION TO
BE ANSWERED ON THE LAST NIGHT OF CAMP QUEST 2005:
Cabin # 2:
Did some being design our planet and us? Wouldn’t it take an
intelligence of some sort or other to put together something as complicated as
living things? Many say there is no other possible good explanation for how we
got here? Is there? What do you think? Why?
Cabin # 3:
We would like to have a religion. On our planet there are
many different countries, races, and languages. There are many different laws
and customs. No one knows anything about any religion, but everyone wants a
religion. Please make up a religion for us which will be a good religion that
everyone on our planet can believe and that will make life better for everyone
all of the time.
Cabin # 4:
Let's say that you could start everything all over again on
your planet Earth. Imagine that you suddenly have no rules or laws of any kind.
Imagine that you have no countries and no religions. But that you do have many
different races and many different languages. Please make up ten (10) rules that
everyone on the planet Earth would have to obey at all times. These must be
rules everyone will agree with, and they must be rules that will make life
better for everyone all the time.
Cabin # 5:
We have heard that there are two invisible unicorns at Camp
Quest. We have heard that you cannot see them, touch them, smell them, or hear
them; that you can walk right through them, that they cannot fly, and that they
never leave the camp. Please explain to us the difference between something that
is invisible and something that does not exist.
Cabin # 6:
Can you tell us seven (7) things the people of your planet
have learned of importance since human beings started living together in groups?
Why are these things important?
Good Luck. The future of a world is in your hands.
Edwin.
