CHALLENGES TO CAMPERS, CAMP QUEST 2003

From: Edwin Kagin, Camp Quest Director, June 21, 2003.

To: the Campers of Camp Quest 2003, Greetings.

As campers from past years know, and as new campers are now to learn, it is traditional at Camp Quest for your beloved Camp Director to each year provide you, on the first night of camp, with certain "Challenges," and invite you to provide answers to them on the final night of camp.

As you probably know, the S.S. Quest, the spaceship you assisted with your advice at Camp Quest '97 arrived safely on the newly discovered planet Questerion on November 26, 2000.

Since that time, our campers have provided important information to the citizens of a far away planet, presumed to be Questerion, on whether the developing civilization of that planet should be structured along lines of science, critical inquiry, and reason, or along lines of religious belief, mysticism, and proof by faith, as urged by their powerful emerging priesthood.

Once again we have received a communication from the grateful people of this planet, via the Phantasmagorical Solutions Institute, through a wormhole or a warp in space-time.

Six days following the Summer Solstice on our planet, this warp will open again, and once again the people of Questerion have turned to the campers of Camp Quest with an urgent request for advice.

Please provide them, in a creative form of presentation, with the best possible answers to the following questions.

The responses from each cabin should be under ten minutes. Use rules of fallacy and rules of evidence wherever possible.

Good luck. The time-space warp will open briefly the last night of camp, and we can send your replies.

The future of a world is in your hands. Good luck! Here are the questions:

CABIN #2: Is the planet you call Questerion really the center of the Universe, as the Priests say?

How do you know for certain?

CABIN #3: Have beings from other planets ever visited your planet? How do you know for certain?

CABIN #4: Our priests say our planet you call Questerion is flat. Others say it is round like a ball. Some say it is hollow. Some say ships can sail off the edge of it. Some say we live inside of it. What is the truth? How can be know for certain?

CABIN #5: Our priests say space travel is impossible and that the reports of inhabitants of your planet Earth landing on your moon were faked. Is this true or not? How do you know for certain?

CABIN #6: Where did all of the stars and planets come from? Did some god or gods make them as the Priests say? How can you know for certain?
